Online Shop Launch

I've finally got an online shop! It's taken a while but now you can buy a selection of stained glass decorations and stained glass collage panels. All of the pieces are unique and use traditional stained glass techniques. They are painted using kiln fired glass paints on hand blown and rolled glass then leaded together. I'll be putting some more work on over the next few months, feel free to take a look around…

Ewenny 900 Medieval Fayre

Ewenny 900 Medieval Fayre was a great success. The sun shone all day and there was a great turn out. I made a stained glass panel over the day with lots of curious onlookers and I had the pleasure of the company of Alun and Jayne from Ewenny Pottery and Marvin the basket weaver who makes the cyntell. A traditional craft showcase! And I had to get in character hence the monk outfit! The battle re-enactment guys were great but the musicians stole the show for me. I've alway loved the hurdy gurdy and was the first time I'd heard it played live.

Stained Glass Intermediate Evening Class

Here are the results from the 'Intermediate Stained Glass Evening Class' that finished a few weeks ago. Well done to Neil, Emma and Lucy who made some brilliant panels. Liz has taken on a slightly bigger project and and will be finishing hers soon!

Everyone had been on either a beginners weekend or evening class with me previously and now wanted to learn about painting on glass and also about silver stain which is how Neil created his 3D cube panel to great effect! CEW Awards 2015

Two projects that I've been involved with have been shortlisted for this years Constructing Excellence in Wales Awards 2015 with Penarth Learning Community winning the 'Integration & Collaborative Working Award' and also 'Project of the Year'. Congratulations to the the Vale of Glamorgan Council, HLM Architects Cardiff and Leadbitter - A Bouygues UK Company.

I was one of the artists commissioned to work on the project by EMP Projects as part of a multi discipline arts programme working across the schools. The commission involved designing 125m2 of coloured curtain wall glazing at all of the building entrances. Designs were made after running a series of drawing workshops with all the schools generating a wealth of visual material to draw on.

The glass was made by Proto Studios who specialise in printing ceramic enamels onto glass. The transparent colours work when the building is viewed from the exterior and also flood colour on the interior when the sun passes by.

The other shortlisted project was another Vale of Glamorgan project for Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Talwg by ISG where I designed clerestory glazing that was also made by Proto Studios. The Vale of Glamorgan were also shortlisted as client of the year.

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks for the opportunity to be involved such great projects.

Making The Lodge Window

Work is nearly complete on the stained glass panel commissioned by The Cathedral School, Llandaff to commemorate the opening of The Lodge, the new building that houses the nursery and infant school.

The design was made in collaboration with the pupils and was developed after running a series of drawing workshops making and drawing leaves and seeds. The drawings were then collaged to make the final design.

In the images you can see the design board and the various stages of the glass being cut, painted, fired and leaded together.

The Evangelists Installation

Last week saw the installation of some new work in St Gertrude's RC Church in Bermondsey, London. The panels depict the symbols of the four evangelists and use the elemental colours as the background. They were made using traditional stained techniques; antique glass, leading, acid etching, painting and staining.

It's been a great project to work on and was fantastic to see them in place!

The Cathedral School Llandaff

Work has begun on a new project with The Cathedral School in Llandaff to design and make a stained glass panel to hang in The Lodge. It will commemorate their move into the new building. I've been working all week with nursery, reception, year 1 and 2 creating large scale group drawings to inspire a design based on the theme of 'Growth and Nurture'.

I have to say it's been a great week, the children and staff were wonderful and I'm absolutely shattered! I'll put some more work up as I progress with the project.

Stained Glass Saplings

I installed a new stained glass panel earlier this week that was an external window opening but is now internal following a new extension being built. It had to let a lot of light in as the window is borrowing light from the extension. I used a combination of handblown and rolled glass to modulate the light and sparkle on the surface. The subtle blues and browns tie in with the clients interior design scheme.

The collaged leaf design I've been developing for some time and I'll have to name it properly soon. Suggestions welcome!
